Analysts sometimes refer to the 21st century as ‘the African Century’, the idea that the continent of Africa will finally enjoy the peace, prosperity and cultural revival that its rich resources merit. Although there’s still plenty of work to be done to achieve this goal, the continent is certainly on the right trajectory. And, on all three fronts, its star pupil may be Rwanda.

  • X-Energy: energy optimization and integrated Blasting Service technologies that deliver the right selective energy where it’s required.
  • Reliable supply: thanks to our regional and worldwide footprint

Maxam Burkina & Endeavour Mining

In Burkina Faso, our Journey started in year 2011 with the creation of MAXAM Burkina, to reach more than 115 employees, 4 operating mines and confirmed Market Leader position with more than 10 Mobile Manufacturing Units, 2 Rioflex Manufacturing Plant and 1 Modular Manufacturing Plant.

Maintaining the same commitment and appetite to deliver the best of blasting solutions to our partners, MAXAM was ready to support Boungou Mine to resume operation in October 2020, taking over from the former explosive supplier, within a very short mobilization time (a month), thanks to our regional footprint and country set-up.

Getting Boungou back to normal production is a common challenge – Endeavour & Maxam.

From Supply Chain perspective: with our Logistic Partners and strong support of Endeavour and the Army, we adjusted our supply plan to continue supplying Boungou despite all the difficulties.

From Operation: Maxam’s started the conversion of Boungou mine, into an optimized operation, using a premium Watergel explosive, the Rioflex (in lieu of standard emulsion) – leading to:

  • A cost reduction coming from patterns expansion, reduction in drilling cost and explosives consumption.
  • An increase of productivity from the improvement in fragmentation, reduction of hauling/loading cycle time
  • A reduction of energy consumption and full optimization downstream

Set up of Modular Manufacturing Plant: to mitigate the risk of short supply, MAXAM has developed the concept of Rioflex Modular Plant. The Modular Plant is a flexible solution to produce explosive on site, with less energy that increases the autonomous of Boungou mine. With combined efforts, Endeavour & Maxam, the Rioflex Modular Plant will be fully commissioned and operational by end of May 2023, a key milestone of Boungou recovery and development plan.

Despite all the challenges, the baselines of stable mining operation are set, and together – MAXAM and ENDEAVOUR, we are working to make Boungou successful. This is what we call Partnership and we’re proud to part of it with ENDEAVOUR Mining at Boungou and in the other mines of the Group.

Maxam, Beyond Performance.

SGS has been providing testing, inspection, and certification services to various industries in Tanzania since 1962. Today, it is the country’s leading provider of such services, serving industries ranging from mining and industrial to environmental, agricultural, oil, gas, and chemicals. In this article, we will discuss SGS Tanzania’s recent developments, role in the AngloGold Ashanti – Geita Gold Mining Limited project, exciting initiatives and services, partnerships, and collaborations.

It is ten years since Business Excellence first visited Ambatovy Joint Venture Project in Madagascar. At that time, the mine was still at the preparatory phase, albeit with serious ambition. With total funding for the project crossing the $5.5 billion threshold, it was, and remains to this day, the largest investment in Madagascar’s history, and has contributed nearly a quarter of the country’s tax revenues since it become operational.

Located 355 kilometres east of Burkina Faso’s capital, Ouagadougou, the Boungou mine is the fifth largest mine in the West African country, which is making a name for itself as a serious player in the global gold market. Gold production in Burkina Faso has been on a fast upward trend over the past decade, growing from 22 million ounces in 2010 to 58 million ounces in 2020. At the time of writing, production growth shows no sign of stopping.

Statistics provided by Senegal’s National Agency of Statistics and Demography (ANSD) show that the West African country’s merchandise exports grew almost three-fold between 2009 and 2019, the period before the Covid-19 pandemic. Although this growth can be attributed to several factors, perhaps none deserves more credit than the arrival of DP World at Port Autonome de Dakar in 2007.

The name Jamaica derives from Xaymaca – a term meaning “land of wood and water” - which was given to the island by its first inhabitants, the Taino. While the face of Jamaica has changed irrevocably since those times, the name at least hints at the potential that the country has to deliver water access to its population. The National Water Commission (NWC) Jamaica is the organization tasked with delivering on this goal.

TORO ARRIVES AT GEITA GOLD MINE - TANZANIA

Sandvik is a global, high-technology engineering group providing solutions that enhance productivity, profitability and sustainability for the mining, and infrastructure industries.

Sandvik Mining and Construction Tanzania Limited, is one of the first major OEMs to establish a base in Tanzania in 2000. Since then, Sandvik has established its customer base with all the major mining companies in Tanzania mainly in and around the Lake Zone Area. These Customers include among others AngloGold Ashanti’s Geita Gold Mine, Barminco’s AUMS, Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Mine and North Mara Mine, and Shanta Gold Mine and Taifa Mining formerly known as Caspian.

Geita Gold Mine together with its main production partner AUMS, have ordered several Sandvik “Toro” LH621i Loaders and TH663i Dump Trucks for use at Geita Gold Mine. The new equipment which is manufactured in Turku, Finland, has already started to be delivered to site.

Both Geita Gold Mine and AUMS and part of larger global operations and have Global relationship agreements with Sandvik but have been using Competitor Loaders and Trucks in Tanzania. Sandvik Tanzania was only supplying underground development drills and production drills and Sandvik drilling consumables.

Sandvik operates a Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) onsite and a drilling consumables contract support.

Sandvik has carried out detailed studies with the LH621i and TH663i combination confirmed that we are able to save Geita Gold Mine operations by up to 30% on operational costs relating to ore movement in the segment of our truck and loader operations.

It suffices to say the loader and truck combination covers the entire customer value chain based on extensive investments in research and development, customer insights and deep knowledge of industrial processes and digital solutions.

The Fuel-efficient Stage II / Tier 2 Volvo engines installed in these Units, offer long engine lifetime and low cost of ownership. The loader and truck’s low weight, efficient engine technology, fast ramp speeds for short cycle times and up to 25% lower fuel consumption compared to competition, result in low cost per hauled ton. Reduced fuel consumption also supports reduction of CO2 emissions.

The LH621i Loader was delivered to site automation ready.

With this combination of the Toro LH621i and the Toro TH663i Dump Truck Sandvik moves the Tonnage !
