US carmaker Chrysler Group today reported its best January sales since 2008, with US sales of 101,149, a 44 percent increase over January 2011.
Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram Truck brands each posted sales increases in January compared with the same month a year ago, in the 22nd-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains.
Chrysler brand sales increased the most, with 17,604 units sold, up 81 percent over the previous year, with Ram Truck sales up 42 percent, Jeep up 37 percent, and Dodge increasing by 29 percent.
“We started the new year with a bang by growing sales 44 percent,” said Reid Bigland, president and CEO, Dodge Brand and head of US sales. “In January we continued building on the sales momentum that we generated during 2011 with our 16 all-new or significantly-refreshed products.”
The sales increase was driven by strong sales of Chrysler sedans. Sales of the Chrysler 200 rose from 788 units in January 2011 to 7,007 in January 2012, almost an eight-fold increase, while Chrysler 300 sales increased by 273 percent from 1,329 to 4,960, the third-consecutive month with a year-over-year sales gain in triple digits.
The Fiat 500, which was not on sale a year ago, sold 1,911 in January 2012.
