Nissan Canada today announced a list of 27 retailers selected to sell, support and service the all-electric Nissan LEAF in Canada.
The selected retailers have passed a rigorous certification process, have modified their sales and service departments and undergone specialized training to provide the unique vehicle service required, in time for the Nissan LEAF launch in the Canadian market.
Deliveries have begun for some Canadian fleet customers and in late August, Nissan will open up online reservations for the Nissan LEAF to those already registered at www.nissan.ca/leaf who live within the vicinity of a certified dealer.
"An all-electric car has different sales and service requirements and our rigorous training and certification process will ensure Nissan LEAF drivers have an exceptional ownership experience," said Michael Colleran, regional vice president of field sales and sales operations, Nissan Canada, Inc. "We're very pleased by the response from our dealer network which is looking forward to bringing the 2011 World Car of the Year to the Canadian market."
With no engine, no oil and very few moving parts, the Nissan LEAF requires much less maintenance and service than a vehicle with an internal combustion engine, but special lifts and pallets are required to handle the lithium-ion battery, and EV-skilled technicians are required to service the car.
Eventually, all Nissan dealers across Canada will be EV-certified but the primary focus at launch are retailers in regions where Nissan has established partnerships with local governments, or utilities are supporting the adoption of electric vehicles.
