Aker Solutions has received a letter of intent from Statoil for the engineering, procurement and construction of a subsea workover system for the Vigdis North East development on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
Vigdis North East is an oil and gas development situated in water depths of around 280 metres in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. Aker’s work will include provision of a complete range of components for open water workover operations.
Workover equipment is used for installing equipment and preparing subsea wells for production; and during the maintenance of subsea wells to increase oil recovery.
The value of the contract is estimated to be approximately NOK500 million.
Commenting on the news, Mads Andersen, executive vice president of Aker Solutions' subsea business area, said: “We are very pleased to be awarded this LOI from Statoil for a new standardised workover system. This award will propel Aker Solutions into pioneering workover operations not only on our own equipment, but also towards third parties. Our equipment enables higher efficiency and lower costs, resulting in more wells being drilled and completed.”
The project will be managed at Aker Solutions' Tranby Technology and Manufacturing Center in Norway, with the manufacturing of the well control package and riser elements to be completed in Tranby and the control systems in Aberdeen. Final deliveries are expected to take place in June next year.
Headquartered in Oslo, Norway, Aker Solutions provides engineering and construction services, technologies, product solutions and field-life solutions for the oil and gas industry.
The company has annual revenues of approximately NOK50 billion and employs around 20,000 people in 26 countries.
