Business excellence in Canada was rewarded today with the announcement of Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies.
Established in 1993, Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies is the mark of excellence for Canadian-owned and managed companies with revenues over $10 million. They are not ranked in order, however.
The Best Managed program is the country’s leading business award, recognizing the efforts of the entire organization towards overall business performance and sustained growth, as well as financial performance.
There is, in fact, more than one list, with awards granted on three levels. The Best Managed list contains 50 new winners selected each year, and there is also a list of requalified members, companies who were honored with the award in the previous year and continue to satisfy the operational and financial review criteria. There is also a list of Platinum Club members (winners that maintain Best Managed status for a minimum of six consecutive years).
One company that has requalified this year is Klohn Crippen Berger (KCB), an internationally-recognized engineering and environmental services firm working in the power, mining, environment, water, transportation, oil sands, oil and gas and municipal sectors.
Having started as geotechnical engineers in 1951, the company is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, and its third consecutive year as one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies.

Other requalified members include Omicron Canada, Saskatchewan Minerals, Tarpon Energy Services and Marsan Foods. Among the list of new winners are Capital Paving, Holt Renfrew, McCain Foods (Canada), and The Miller Group.
