French energy firm EDF is hoping to take a ten per cent stake in Russian GazpromÔÇÖs South Stream gas pipeline, it has emerged.


UK-based Tullow oil and US-based Anadarko Petroleum are due to reveal the discovery of a new oil frontier stretching along the African coast from Ghana to Sierra Leone.


Avaya, the manufacturer of corporate phone systems and software, has paid $915 million to acquire Nortel Networks' enterprise business, its second-largest unit by revenue.  The deal, which is subject to Canadian and US court and regulatory approvals, includes $15 million for an employee retention program. Basking Ridge, New Jersey-based Avaya had previously made a $475m stalking horse offer for the enterprise unit, which makes phone equipment and networks for businesses and has annual revenues of around $2.4 billion.


Air France-KLM is reportedly in talks with Japan Airlines (JAL) to invest up to $300 million (Ôé¼205 million) for a stake in the struggling carrier.


Italian firm Finmeccanica has announced its New Jersey-based DRS Technologies unit has won a $1.9 billion contract to supply the US armed forces with infrared technology.  The contract for the technology on driverÔÇÖs vision enhancers, or DVEs, was awarded to DRS alongside a second supplier.

Houston-based energy firm ConocoPhillips has signed a deal to explore for natural gas in PolandÔÇÖs shale acreage, according to a report by Reuters. The agreement with Lane Energy Poland allows for joint assessment of LaneÔÇÖs six licenses in the northern Baltic basin region of Poland, near the Port of Gdansk. Under the terms of the deal, ConocoPhillips has the option to acquire an interest of 70 percent in the concessions and to operate up to one million acres, though Lane will act as operator on the initial phase. Acreage in northern Poland is flat, easily accessible a

Energy giant Chevron has signed deals worth $60 billion to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Japan and South Korea, it has been announced. The firmÔÇÖs Australian unit is to supply three million tons of LNG from its Gorgon gas field to both countries each year. Osaka Gas will receive 1.375 million tons and Tokyo Gas 1.1 million tons, every year over a period of 25 years.


JapanÔÇÖs third-largest brewer, Suntory, is in talks to buy European beverage firm Orangina from Blackstone Group and Lion Capital Holdings.
