The awards program was launched to celebrate Asia's evolving importance as a destination for life science partnerships and business activities.

According to the sponsors, the award aims to recognize the best contract manufacturing organization (CMO) that has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to improve its services in Asia and in reducing lead times for its customers.

Rolls-Royce has won a £24 million order to design and equip four offshore service vessels to be built by COSCO (Guangdong) Shipyard in China.

The Rolls-Royce UT 771 CDL vessels will feature a fully integrated equipment system including highly efficient diesel electric propulsion, deck machinery, bulk handling equipment and automation and control systems.

The vessels will be equipped for transporting pipes, equipment and cargo to and from pipe-laying barges, oil drilling and production platforms, as well as for fire fighting.

South African mining giant Gold Fields has acquired a 40 per cent interest in the gold-copper Far Southeast Project in the Philippines, it has been announced.

In September 2010, Gold Fields entered into two option agreements with Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company, which owns 60 per cent of Far Southeast; and Liberty Express Assets, which owns 40 per cent. The agreements granted Gold Fields an option to acquire a 60 per cent interest in Far Southeast for a total of $340 million.

Çayeli Bakir is an underground copper and zinc mine located in the north-east of Turkey, close to the Black Sea coast. The facility, a wholly owned subsidiary of Canada’s Inmet Mining, became operational in 1994 and is expected to run until at least 2017.


Morano Resources has entered into an option agreement to purchase Zarmadan Resources Corporation and its Rumri gold project in Tajikistan, it has been announced.

The Rumri project is located in the Tavildara region of Tajikistan, about 250 kilometres east of Dushanbe, near the village of Sangvor in the southern Tien Shan gold belt. The belt hosts a number of world-class gold deposits and globally significant gold producers.


Canadian biopharmaceutical company Medicago Inc. today announced a strategic alliance with Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corporation (MTPC) to develop and commercialize at least three new vaccines.


DuPont and Yingli Energy (China) Company Limited have signed a $100 million strategic agreement for photovoltaic materials to accelerate the adoption of solar energy.

The agreement was signed today in Washington, DC, in a ceremony organized by the US Department of Commerce and the Ministry of Commerce, People's Republic of China. 

Under the terms of the agreement, Yingli will purchase a range of trademarked photovoltaic materials from DuPont.
