With a shared interest in Building Information Modelling (BIM) the two organisations have signed a memorandum of understanding which will see them explore ways to collaborate on research, shared lectures, placements and more.

Peter Westland, dean of the university’s School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment, signed the agreement with Simon Dale, director of Mace.


The World Health Organization believes that since February 2014, there have been nearly 18,000 reported Ebola cases and more than 6,000 deaths. According to Dr. Thomas Frieden, Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, speed of response is the key to ending the Ebola epidemic, mostly affecting Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.


The tower, designed by renowned architects Helmut Jahn and Werner Sobek, is set to be completed by the end of 2016. Shortly after the launch of the innovative MULTI-elevator system from ThyssenKrupp, the company laid the foundation for its test tower in Rottweil, Germany. From 2016 onwards, ThyssenKrupp Elevator's innovative products will be tested within this tower, which is emerging as a crucial element in the company's global research and development strategy.


The 2015 report gives a clear snapshot of the 100 projects that are most strategic to their country's competitiveness, and that have specific business opportunities for the private sector in the next 3 - 18 months. This list hones in on 47 countries, 10 sectors, and covers projects from pre-feasibility study through early construction.

The recipients of the prestigious 2014 Projects of the Year Awards were declared during the 6th North American Strategic Infrastructure Leadership Forum in Washington, DC. The awards were selected from an initial list of 400 projects valued at $370 billion.


The 6th North American Strategic Infrastructure Leadership Forum is hosted by CG/LA Infrastructure and aims to bring together officials and sponsors from the top infrastructure 100 projects in North America. “Infrastructure drives economic growth across the board. Vice President Biden understands this and has demonstrated leadership in developing a national vision to innovate and improve the state of US infrastructure,” said CG/LA President and CEO, Norman Anderson (pictured) in a statement.


The Bahrain Airport project is a $1 billion project that aims to host 27 million passengers a year. Other projects, like the Riyadh Metro, extending 176 kilometres of rail throughout the largest city in Saudi Arabia, present growth opportunities that will last a decade or more.


Zimkhitha Zatu (30), who holds a responsible managerial position in the finance department of South Africa's largest cement manufacturer, believes that women who enter the construction industry should keep an eye out for male counterparts willing to become mentors. “You will be surprised by the number of male employees who are always willing to mentor their female colleagues and help them to make a success of themselves in this hard industry,” says Zatu.
