Florida-based renewable and sustainable energy technology company GDT Tek Inc, has expanded its business model to include the acquisition of cogeneration landfills.

“Cogeneration landfill operations generate significant revenues but perhaps even more exciting to GDT Tek is our ability to increase the efficiency of cogeneration landfills with our waste heat to electricity system ‘The Phoenix’,” said president Bo Linton.


FMC Technologies announced today an agreement with Statoil for the supply of additional subsea equipment for the Snorre field. The order has an estimated value of $33 million in revenue.

Under the terms of the agreement, FMC Technologies will provide 10 production risers and tieback connectors. The equipment is scheduled for delivery in 2015.

As the leading economic power in Africa, it’s no surprise that South Africa is a key player in the African oil industry. Liquid fuels are an important component of its energy sector, with the 2012 BP Statistical Energy Survey revealing that, in 2011, South Africa consumed an average of 547,250 barrels of oil per day.


 

Come 2017, the agency anticipates global coal consumption to stand at 4.32 billion tonnes of oil equivalent, compared to 4.4 billion tonnes for oil itself. In its report, the IEA states that increased demand from India and China is fuelling this push.

"Coal's share of the global energy mix continues to grow each year," says IEA executive director Maria Van der Hoeven. "If no changes are made to current policies, coal will catch oil within a decade."


This is a difficult time for the coal industry in the United States. Janet Gellici, CEO of the American Coal Council, talks about finding a way to overcome the challenges.

The coal industry provides over 40 percent of the United States’ electricity, but it seems to be under attack from all quarters. Just because you’re paranoid, the saying goes, it doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you.


 

PetroChina will pay $1.63 billion for BHP’s 8.3 percent stake in the East Browse and its 20 percent holding in the West Browse joint venture. If approved, it will be the latest in a series of investments by Chinese oil and gas firms this year, the biggest of those being CNOOC’s takeover of Canada’s Nexen for $15.1 billion.


Leighton Offshore, in consortium with Boskalis Offshore, has been awarded a transportation, installation and dredging contract by Shell Eastern Petroleum (Pte) Ltd to replace part of the single point mooring (SPM) 48” subsea pipeline. The project is located near Bukom Island, Singapore and is part of Shell’s planned maintenance.
