Boeing receives $1 billion order


Latin American airline Copa has placed an order for thirteen Boeing 737-800 planes, worth a┬átotal of┬á$1 billion.  This brings the total number of 737 aircraft ordered by the firm to twenty-seven.┬á Panama City-based Copa, which flies to destinations throughout North, Central and South America as well as the Caribbean, said it expects delivery of the thirteen new planes to take places between 2012 and 2015. It has also taken options to buy eight more between 2015 and 2017.┬á The design of the new aircraft takes some inspiration from Chicago-based BoeingÔÇÖs Dreamliner, and will benefit from engine modifications that are expected to boost fuel economy by up to two percent.┬á ÔÇ£The Boeing 737s have been a major factor in CopaÔÇÖs success, providing us with operating and cost efficiencies, and enabling us to offer our passengers world-class service and an extensive route network throughout Latin America,ÔÇØ said Copa CEO, Pedro┬áHeilbron in a statement.┬á ÔÇ£This order reaffirms our confidence in our business model and the growth potential of Latin American aviation.ÔÇØ┬á┬á┬á  The planes are to be built in Renton, Washington. *┬á┬á┬á┬á┬á┬á *┬á┬á┬á┬á┬á┬á *
