Aberdeen-based energy services company John Wood Group has won a £100 million power station contract in California.
The contract is to construct and commission the conversion of the Tracy Peaker Plant in Tracy, California, owned by GWF Energy, in order to make it more environmentally friendly.
The work will be carried out by the company’s power division, Wood Group GTS.
The project will convert the existing facility to combined cycle operation through the turnkey design and installation of two heat recovery steam generators and a single steam turbine generator, an air cooled condenser and related balance of plant equipment.
Upon completion, the converted 336 megawatt plant will offer more efficient and flexible electric generating capacity.
Commenting on the news, Mark Papworth, CEO, Wood Group GTS, said: “We are very pleased to have been chosen as the EPC contractor for the GWF Tracy project. We are proud to have GWF as a long-standing Wood Group GTS customer in California, and this important project builds on that strong relationship.”
The announcement came as the company issued a trading statement saying its performance for the year would meet expectations. It also said its engineering business was likely to see its performance improve.
A recovery in US rig count has recently helped Wood Group’s well support business, while its production facilities are benefiting from rising demand in the North Sea, Angola and Australia.
Wood Group is an international energy services company with revenues of $5 billion, employing approximately 29,000 people worldwide and operating in 50 countries
