San Francisco to host second solar summit

The concentrated solar power industry (CSP) is gearing up for its second annual conference in San Francisco, California next week.

The 2nd CSP Plant Optimization Summit USA will take place on the 7-8th September at the Parc 55 Hotel in San Francisco. The event will bring together leading technical experts throughout the CSP industry and will tackle the immediate roadblocks faced in the design, engineering and operation of large-scale CSP plants.

Subjects on the agenda include:

  • Plant design and layout considerations for 100MW+ projects
  • New generation plant modelling
  • Cooling technology – efficiency vs. cost
  • Critical balance of plant component selection and integration for reduced LCOE
  • Innovation in storage technologies
  • Successful project execution and operations & maintenance

The event organizers recently announced that Bechtel and Siemens are sponsoring the conference. Bechtel will give an exclusive case study on the design and integration of Ivanpah, the world’s largest power tower project, while Siemens will be sharing its knowledge in power block innovations for super-scale CSP. Other sponsors of the summit include Fluor and Sun to Market Solutions.

Jack Ahearne, global events director at CSP Today said that “the CSP industry in the United States is poised for massive growth and development in 2012; however, there are technical challenges that need to be addressed, which means that fast action is required.” He went on to say that “this event was created to provide solutions to the design, engineering and operation of large-scale plants, to secure CSPs place in the emerging renewable energy economy in the US.”
