SNC-Lavalin acquires UK rail technology consultancy

Canadian engineering, construction and infrastructure group SNC-Lavalin has acquired Interfleet Technology, an international rail technology consultancy group headquartered in Derby, United Kingdom.

Interfleet specializes in rolling stock, railway systems and strategic railway management.

"Interfleet's specialized expertise, complementary geographic presence and reputation for innovation are a strong addition to SNC-Lavalin's service offering, particularly given the great growth potential in the rail sector worldwide," said Jim Burke, executive vice president, SNC-Lavalin Group.

"This acquisition, combined with our existing expertise in major rail projects, supports our long-term strategic plan for growth in this sector. We are pleased to welcome Interfleet to the team."

Founded in 1994 during UK rail privatization, Interfleet has grown from a single UK office of 90 employees to almost 600 staff in 22 locations. Interfleet serves public and private clients around the world from its offices in United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Central Europe, Australasia, India and North America.

"The acquisition represents the best way to assure the future growth and development of the company," said David Rollin, managing director, Interfleet Technology. "Interfleet and SNC-Lavalin have a complementary geographical reach and our company cultures and respective strategic plans are aligned. Together we will be able to provide an even wider range of resources, capabilities and services to our clients in future."

SNC-Lavalin has offices across Canada and in over 35 other countries around the world, and is currently working in some 100 countries. In business since 1911, the company is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
